You know fall is right around the corner. You’ve been reaching for an extra blanket at night and your mailbox is stuffed with fall catalogs. They all look so pretty, so how do you know what to buy and what to skip?
Every year, the colors of fall will stay the same. They are a little dark and reflect the colors of nature at the time. For neutrals, you will see stone gray, chocolate brown, and drab olive. Then there will be the jewel tons, like emerald green, purple, and ruby red. Buying classic pieces in these colors will make your clothes fit in to your fall wardrobe for years to come. Fall is also the time for mens prints to make an appearance in ladies fashion lives. When it comes to houndstooth and pinstripe, keep the look small. Some years, it is in to have a medium sized print, other years to have a large or over sized print, but a small print is in ever year.
The first piece you may be thinking of is a fall jacket. A tailored jacket is a strong choice. Choose fall fabrics like corduroy or chose one of the menswear prints for a double look of fall. Make sure that even though the jacket should be formfitting, you can fit some of your favorite sweaters under it for late fall.
When it comes to sweaters, you will want sweaters made from natural fibers. A mohair sweater is great for fall. Cashmere is super soft, and cotton is easy to care for. A v-neck is every woman’s best friend and can be layered beautifully. Some natural blends will allow you to wear a prized sweater even in early fall when it it not that chilly yet.
Finally, pants are a must have for fall and the upcoming winter will require snow pants. Like the other pieces in your wardrobe, you want trend defying pants. Always go for a flat front, since pleated isn’t flattering on any woman. A straight cut will give you a longer wear than tapered or flared cuts, since these go in and out of style.
